About Us

Sunshine Pre-school has operated out of Gorfin Hall for several years before Mel and Paul took over ownership in 2014.  In 2018 to keep up with increasing demand and need for flexibility we decided to offer Sunshine to parents all year round and with no fixed sessions instead offering hours to suit your needs between 8am-5pm Monday to Friday.

Being a smaller setting, we can offer a warm and bright home from home environment for children from 2yrs old. We accept most childcare vouchers and offer the Government Early Years Funding for 2, 3- & 4-year olds, this funding can also be stretched over the 51 weeks that we are open.

Our location is perfect, we are located just off of Salterton Road in a quiet residential area.  Our modern building recently has had solar panels fitted to its roof in helping promote our environmental sustainability. Our large enclosed garden offers a grassed area with a variety of children’s climbing and balance equipment, swings, slides, and mud kitchen.

We have a bright covered decked area and a large summerhouse which can both be used by smaller groups all year round. Our garden backs on to Hamilton Lane allotments where we also have our own plot which the children love to visit regularly to grow our own fruit and vegetables

Policies and Procedures…

We have a number of policy and procedures relevant to the safety and successful running of our Pre-school.  A copy of this is given to all our parents prior to their child starting with us and can also be found here. We very much look on our parents becoming partners with us whilst their child is at Sunshine and we have a parent’s contract which sets out what we require from parents to support the operation of the pre-school.

As part of our registration with OFSTED we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.  This exists to support all professionals working within childcare and is also the legislation on which OFSTED inspect us and rate our performance.  Our most recent OFSTED inspection can be viewed here. A Parents Guide to the EYFS can be downloaded here.

Before a child joins Sunshine, we offer free of charge taster sessions the week before their start date.  The first of these we like parents to come along to meet the team, have a cuppa and ask any questions they may have.  The following sessions enable the child to start settling in and getting to know the team.

We assign a keyperson who is responsible for documenting a child’s development and track each child through the different stages of the framework. They will keep parents updated on their child’s progress as well as adding photos and observations to their All About Me Book. We encourage parents to also use this book not only for notes, reading important information and as a point of contact but also to add their own pictures and short notes about their child’s time away from Sunshine. These books are also a lovely treasure keepsake for when your child leaves us.
