Using the seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum (EYFS); Personal Social and Emotional Development (PSED), Communication and Language, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the World and Expressive Arts and Design, we plan and implement a wide range of activities to develop children’s learning on a daily basis.
Below you will find a few examples of how we would implement each area of learning across the whole nursery.
Personal Social and Emotional Development –
At Sunshine we pride ourselves on our nursery becoming a second home for your child. We believe this provides and caring and nurturing environment for children to feel safe and secure at all times, allowing them to develop socially and emotionally.
All children are encouraged to build friendships, confidence, resilience and an understanding of behaviours and emotions in a number of ways here at Sunshine.
We ensure children are able to build such skills through a mix of planned purposeful play and adult led learning. Children are encouraged to turn take, show sensitivity to others feelings and emotional needs, be aware of their own needs and develop the ability to ask for help, developing independence ready for school.
Along side consistent routines, all of the Sunshine team ensure children are given the opportunity to express their wants and needs by listening and acting as positive role models.
Communication and Language-
We ensure we provide a language rich environment, where children are able to express themselves verbally. We ensure children are provided with a number of resources, such as visual aids, familiar print, pictures and words to aid their communication development.
Children are encouraged to develop their vocabulary and strengthen the connections in their brains by listening to and having the opportunity to use a vast array of language, through song, story and play.
At Sunshine children are supported with all aspects of their physical development. Children are provided with many opportunities to access physical play, in our private garden and within the local environment.
Children are provided with opportunities to access pictures, books, songs and other literature here at Sunshine. Children can also take books home to look at with parents. This aims to develop children’s Communication skills and enjoyment for reading and writing.
Children are encouraged to learn about maths through meaningful play; allowing children to explore, experiment and problem solve while having opportunities to learn about numbers. Children are encouraged to problem solve and experiment within our daily routine, for example, pouring their own drinks at snack time; this develops children’s awareness of capacity, while developing independence and hand eye coordination.
Understanding of the World-
Here at Sunshine we respect and celebrate different cultures, ways of lives and differences in the world around us. We encourage the children to learn about and be inquisitive about the world by exposing them to a wide range of experiences.
We use our local environment as much as possible so the children can learn about safety, people in our community and to develop care and concern for the community, themselves and other living things.
